My Experience:

I traveled to Malta during my spring semester in 2018. After talking to students that had previously traveled here and seeing pictures online, I was determined to visit Malta. Malta was the most fun trip that I have ever taken. Normally, I travel for courses or research but this trip to Malta was for pure enjoyment. I went to Malta with a good friend who is from Canada that I met during my time in Vienna. We stayed in a beautiful hotel that had a pool and an all you can eat breakfast. The breakfast was the closest I had found to an American breakfast during my whole semester in Europe. I was thrilled. Malta is a former British colony so English is the common language. I must say, it was quite refreshing to hear everyone speaking English again. I was also surprised by the friendliness of everyone. This was a pleasant change coming from Vienna.

Malta is composed of Malta (The Big Island) and two smaller islands: Comino and Gozo. The highlight of my trip to Malta was definitely the cruise I took between the three islands. I was surrounded by crystal blue water. I had never seen such a beautiful landscape before. My friend and I took a speed boat ride between Gozo and Comino. Our driver was blasting music and was doing tricks with the boat. This was a real thrill. The architecture on Gozo is also quite beautiful and has a unique style. The food throughout my stay in Malta was nothing too special but I enjoyed each meal. The food was very "American" which made my tummy happy.

I went back to Malta in April of 2019 while I was studying abroad at the University of Aberdeen. I spent three days in Malta with two American friends (one from my home Uni and the other was studying at Aberdeen with me). Malta was our last destination of our spring break trip. I did the same island cruise again that I did the first time. I would say that my second experience was not as fun as the first. However, I did get to explore some more of Comino which I found to be quite beautiful.

I highly recommend Malta and I would love to go back to explore more. This is one of my top countries!
