TRAVEL TIPS
My top 20 travel tips based on the mistakes that I have made while traveling and what has worked well for me

Make sure your phone is unlocked before traveling to your destination! International SIM cards will not work if your phone is not unlocked

1.

Have the correct wall converter so that you will be able to charge your electronic devices. Research what type of outlet the respective country uses.

2

When booking train tickets, also make a seat reservation! If you cannot make this online, make the reservation at the train station.

3

Make sure that you have travel notices on your credit cards. Warning: Bookings for buses, trains, hotels, etc. often go through different countries.

4

Lost? Talk with the locals! Do not be afraid to ask a stranger for help. Most are very willing to point you in the right direction.

5

Attempt to learn basic greetings and important phrases (asking for directions and ordering food) before arriving at your destination.

6

Be prepared for spontaneity! Trains may switch platforms, buses can be delayed, and attractions can be closed. Changing your plans is normal.

7

Back up everything on your electronic devices before you leave! Connecting to new networks and outlets abroad can sometimes cause issues.

8

Enter the phone numbers for your credit card(s) into your contacts. If your credit card(s) are stolen, then you can quickly call to cancel the card(s).

9

Enter the phone number and address for the embassy of your country for which you have a passport. If your passport is lost or stolen, call the embassy!

10

13

Travel with an open mind. Embrace the new culture even though it may be different. Eat local foods and try new activities.

14

Research if the tap water is safe to drink where you are traveling. If not, buy bottled water.

15

Make copies of your passport and credit card(s) before you leave! If your passport and or cards are stolen, having copies makes things easier.

16

Utilize your space when packing! Roll up your clothes and fill open spaces such as the inside of shoes.

17

Download "offline maps" on Google Maps of the area in which you are traveling. Many places have no cell service or Wifi.

18

Bring comfortable shoes! Do not bring new shoes, break them in before traveling. Wear cheap flip flops in any shower!

19

Document your travels! Take a lot of pictures and write down where you went and what you did.
